Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts for Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty (RFU) should be submitted online through the journal's official submission system at www.rfu.journal-publishing.org.

The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for managing the manuscript throughout the submission and peer-review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors are included in the author list, that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version of the manuscript, and that they agree to its submission to Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty.

To submit a manuscript, authors must register or log in to the journal's online submission system and follow the instructions provided.

Accepted File Formats

Authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the official Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty manuscript templates. Using the journal's templates helps ensure consistent formatting and facilitates the editorial, copyediting, and production processes.

The following file formats are accepted:

  • PDF files: Manuscripts submitted as PDF files are accepted for the initial round of peer review only. Authors may be required to provide editable source files when submitting a revised manuscript or following acceptance.

  • Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word should be submitted as a single editable DOCX file. Authors should use the official RFU Word template. Figures, tables, and other graphical elements should be inserted in the main manuscript, preferably near their first citation.

  • LaTeX files: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX should follow the official RFU LaTeX template. Authors should provide the complete source package, including the main .tex file, bibliography files, figures, and any additional files required for compilation. Figures should be supplied in high-quality vector formats whenever possible. Raster images should generally have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

  • Supplementary files: Supplementary materials may be submitted in appropriate formats. Authors are encouraged to use widely supported, non-proprietary file formats whenever possible.

Reproducing Previously Published Material

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights and permissions to reproduce material previously published elsewhere.

Permission may be required for figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, diagrams, substantial text extracts, and other copyrighted materials that are not covered by an applicable license or statutory exception.

Authors should obtain permission from the relevant copyright holder before submitting the manuscript whenever such permission is required.

Permission is generally required for:

  • Previously published material for which the authors do not retain the necessary reuse rights.

  • Substantial extracts from copyrighted publications.

  • Tables, graphs, charts, diagrams, and illustrations reproduced from other publications when reuse is not otherwise authorized.

  • Photographs and other visual materials for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights.

Permission may not be required for:

  • Material that is in the public domain.

  • Material distributed under an open license that permits the intended reuse, provided that all license conditions are satisfied.

  • Original tables or figures independently created by the authors using previously published data, provided that the underlying material is not copied in a way that infringes copyright and the original data source is properly acknowledged.

  • Short quotations or other uses that qualify for an applicable copyright exception, subject to the relevant legal requirements.

Simply modifying or redrawing a previously published figure does not automatically eliminate the need for permission. Authors must ensure that their use of the original material complies with applicable copyright law and licensing conditions.

Obtaining Permission

To avoid unnecessary delays during the editorial and publication processes, authors should begin obtaining any necessary permissions as early as possible.

When permission is required, it should cover the intended publication and distribution of the material in an open-access journal, including reuse under the journal's applicable publication license.

Authors should retain documentation confirming that the necessary permissions have been obtained and provide it to the editorial office upon request.

If the copyright holder specifies a particular acknowledgment, authors must follow those instructions. Otherwise, an appropriate acknowledgment may be included in the relevant figure or table caption, for example:

"Reproduced with permission from [Author(s)], [Publication Title], [Publisher], [Year]."

When material has been adapted rather than reproduced directly, the acknowledgment should clearly indicate the adaptation and identify the original source.

Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty reserves the right to request documentation of permissions or require the removal or replacement of material for which the necessary rights cannot be demonstrated.

Open Access and Publication Fees

Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty is a fully open-access journal. There are no submission fees or Article Processing Charges (APCs). Authors are not required to pay any fees for manuscript submission, peer review, or publication.

Accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, subject to the journal's publication policies.
