About the Journal

Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty (RFU) publishes high-quality scientific papers that make significant theoretical, methodological, computational, or application-oriented contributions to the study of fuzziness, uncertainty, imprecision, vagueness, ambiguity, incomplete information, and conflicting information. The journal provides an international, interdisciplinary platform for research connecting fuzzy mathematics, uncertainty modelling, computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, decision sciences, optimization, information fusion, and intelligent systems.

RFU welcomes original theoretical research, innovative mathematical frameworks, methodological advances, computational algorithms, and scientifically meaningful applications. Submissions should clearly establish their scientific motivation, originality, relationship to existing research, and theoretical or practical significance. Purely theoretical and mathematically rigorous contributions are strongly encouraged, provided that their assumptions, properties, proofs, and scientific relevance are clearly demonstrated. Computational and experimental studies should provide sufficient methodological detail to support validation and reproducibility.

The journal encourages research exploring the interactions between fuzzy systems, uncertainty representations, artificial intelligence, soft computing, machine learning, optimization, and decision-making under uncertainty. Applications across engineering, intelligent systems, energy, transportation, healthcare, finance, sustainability, management, and other scientific and technological fields are welcome when the treatment of fuzziness or uncertainty constitutes a substantive scientific contribution. High-quality reviews and critical state-of-the-art studies addressing significant developments in these areas are also encouraged.

General Journal Guidelines for Authors

Research in Fuzziness and Uncertainty publishes original research articles, theoretical and methodological papers, computational and algorithmic studies, application-oriented research, review articles, systematic reviews, critical surveys, comparative and benchmarking studies, and other scientifically relevant contributions within the journal's scope.

Research articles should include a clear motivation for the work, an appropriate review of relevant and recent literature, an explicit statement of the research problem and scientific novelty, a rigorous theoretical or methodological foundation, appropriate analytical, computational, experimental, or comparative validation, and well-supported conclusions.

For theoretical manuscripts, authors should establish the mathematical motivation, assumptions, definitions, properties, proofs, and relationship of the proposed framework to existing theories. Manuscripts introducing new fuzzy or generalized uncertainty structures should demonstrate distinctive mathematical properties and meaningful theoretical or practical advantages.

For computational and application-oriented manuscripts, authors should provide sufficient methodological details to enable independent assessment and reproducibility. Where appropriate, comparative experiments, robustness analyses, sensitivity investigations, and benchmarking against established approaches should be included.

Routine applications of existing methods without substantive scientific novelty or methodological advancement are generally insufficient for publication. Hybrid decision-making and optimization studies should provide a clear scientific justification for combining the selected methods and demonstrate an advancement beyond their straightforward sequential application.

The journal does not impose a universal page limit on all manuscript categories. Manuscript length should be appropriate to the complexity, methodology, and scientific contribution of the work. Authors must prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the journal's submission requirements and official article template, available through the submission guidelines.

Extended versions of previously published conference papers may be considered when they contain substantial new scholarly material and clearly disclose the relationship with the earlier publication. The additional contribution may include new theoretical results, mathematical properties, algorithms, computational experiments, comparative analyses, or significant methodological developments. Authors must identify the original conference paper and comply with the journal's publication-integrity and copyright requirements.

Aims and Scope

The principal aim of RFU is to advance the theoretical understanding, mathematical representation, computational processing, and practical treatment of fuzziness and uncertainty. The journal connects fundamental uncertainty theories with modern computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, decision-making, optimization, information fusion, and meaningful real-world applications.

Authors are encouraged to consult the complete Aims and Scope before submitting their manuscripts.
